5 Ways To Get Unstuck

The human need for Certainty can keep you Stuck! You have an idea and the first thing that comes to mind is “but I don’t know”. This is when our brain is backing out of the idea because it is not certain about the outcome.

You are chasing CERTAINTY and SECURITY in your ideas which is keeping you stuck.

There is no such thing as certainty and security in life. You will never be certain what tomorrow will bring and that job you feel secure could be gone tomorrow. We have conditioned our brain to think that things are secure when they are not.

So how do you trick your brain to feel certainty when you want to start a new career or work for yourself?

Here are 5 ways you can tackle uncertainty?

1. Save money and get rid of things you don’t need. Once you do this money will no longer be an excuse.

How to do this.

  • Think about things you don’t use or need and sell them.

  • What can you go without

  • Open a savings account

  • If you really want it, you will find a way to make it happen.

  • Use your strengths to work for yourself. It might not be your desired job but it will allow you to spend time on the outcome you really want.

2. Create habits and routine around the outcome you want or the goal you want to achieve.

How to do this

  • Consistently showing up is key. When are you most productive in the day. Use that time wisely. For me it's in the morning.

  • Write in your diary a three-month plan on how you will achieve each goal/outcome or how to get closer to the outcome you want.

  • Break the three-month plan down to monthly, weekly and daily activities required to reach your outcome. Refer to this plan daily.

  • Start taking risks and step out of your comfort.

3. Get super clear about what you want, why you want it and how to get it. The WHY is the most important part.

How to do this

This requires self-reflection. It requires you to answer questions honestly and use your gut feeling rather then external factors that influence you. Become clear about your values, what are the things that are important to you in life?

4. Once you know what outcome you want, and you have a clear plan of attack, invest money. Get help to achieve the outcome you want. Find people who are doing the thing you want to do.

How to do this

There is no point in saving for a rainy day when you have goals to achieve. The more money you invest (with a clear plan and goal in mind) the more likely you will try to achieve it or pivot to a new outcome if you need to. Failure can be seen as a challenge rather than defeat. The key is to be okay with challenges that arise and to build a mindset that will help you through them. Rather than giving up in the first year, learn from your experience and improve your systems.

5. Read lots of books and listen to podcasts. This will help you acquire a growth mindset. It gives you tools and strategies that other people have used to create their own lifestyle. Listen to their stories, if they can do it then why can't you?

How to do this

Find books that relate to what you want to do. Listen to audio books in the car on the way to work. Listen to podcasts where people have stepped away from a 9-5 corporate job to find a career that is more fulfilling.

Certainty comes from committing to an idea. If you can go from "I don't know" to clearly articulating what you want, you will commit to an idea and put things in place to achieve it.

Talk to people about what you want and why you want that outcome. This will keep you accountable and you will start to believe in the idea.
